Did you read the link that I posted, Chunky? It's an interview with Grant Cameron, a leading UFO researcher.

Interesting links, Liza. I wonder if anybody else will check them out. emoticon

From the Area 51 link:

"I think there was a conflict there because if there was a consensus that they wanted to get it out, it could have been accomplished. They certainly tried to prevent it after the fact. He asked them when he was there, “How do you keep this secret?” and they said it’s the easiest thing in the world to do. As long as you don’t prove anything one way or the other – as long as you keep people on the fence and ridicule those who believe or who have seen things, and dismiss the rest, it is easy to keep secret because everyone wants to say there’s no life anywhere else that we have discovered.3"

Kitty, Liza, you believe whatever you like emoticon

Whats a debate without two sides? Just a shouting match. emoticon

Myself and chunky will continue to believe in science and quantifiable evidence and we will respect your views to believe whatever you like, just as we hope you'll respect ours to not believe emoticon

There's this old dude who went into a bar. Saw an elderly crone sitting there, and they started talking. Bought her some booze...they both got tipsy.

He asked if she'd mind spending the night with him in the nearby motel. She said, "No, I don't mind, but will you respect me in the morning?" He replied, "Respect you...heck, I don’t know if I’ll even remember you!” emoticon

(I got interrupted by a phone call from my brother; we talked nearly half an hour.)

What makes you think we don't believe in science? I don't recall ever saying that. I just know science has a limited ability to prove anomalous and metaphysical experiences that are much more advanced. The tools don't exist yet to capture and measure much of it. There is plenty of evidence out there though, but you won't find it browsing through the pages of Scientific American, at least not for a few more years.

Re: Getting Closer

Don't get me wrong, ladies. I am not closed minded about things like the existence of aliens or psychic abilities and quite frankly I resent the implication that I might be just because I want to see hard evidence.

What I do know is that for anything to be real, there MUST be a mechanism by which it works. That's where the science part comes in: showing conclusive evidence that something is indeed real by showing how it works.

Yes, science may not have conclusively figured out how something like psychic ability works ... yet. I happen to know that there are some unusual things out there. My wife senses stuff all the time, far too often and far too significantly for it to be mere chance. However, I also know there is a quantifiable reason for it, we just don't know exactly how it works yet. Personally, I suspect the concept of mental radio is at work. Upton Sinclair's work is exactly what is required to sort out the truth about such things.

What I am getting at with things like this light over London is that is serves no useful purpose to jump to the conclusion that it is an alien spaceship just because we initially don't know what it is. One of the basic tenets of police investigation for example is to rigourously avoid drawing conclusions until all the evidence is in. If you do, it could cause you to discard evidence contrary to the prematurely drawn conclusion. This principle is vital in any area of investigation.

I would be overjoyed to find out that we are not alone in the universe, but I want to know it, not just accept anecdotes as truth with nothing to verify them. We must make the effort to verify if we are to weed out all the lies and misinformation out there.

And Liza, I did look at that link. All I saw was people saying "I talked to so and so who said this guy told him this happened or he saw that." That's not evidence, that's hearsay. Anybody can say anything, it doesn't make it proof of anything. To go back to the police analogy, in court the least reliable form of so-called evidence a jury can be presented with is eyewitness testimony. Basically, in the absence of any physical evidence to corroborate it, a statement given under oath is the least valuable piece of 'evidence' in the eyes of the law.

That's what I mean about the search for truth. If someone says they saw documents proving the existence of aliens but they don't have the documents, it may well be true but the statement alone is not proof.

PS -- and the mental radio thing? I strongly suspect quantum mechanics will show us how many such things that seem like miracles actually work.

I don't think all anecdotal evidence can be comfortably dismissed. Many of the eyewitness accounts over the years have come from highly credible sources - pilots, military personnel, cops etc.

I believe, simply on the preponderance of sightings over the decades from diverse sources, that "something" from "somewhere else" has very likely visited us.

But like Charlie and Slick, I very nearly ache for iron-clad proof.

And if what Kitty believes comes true, I reckon we're gonna get it.

Which would be majorly cool. emoticon

Re: Getting Closer

From: Matthew's latest

"6. In a recent message we stated that the council deemed it advisable to wait until near the end of the year for crews to land in large numbers and members of our universal family living among you to identify themselves. We also said that nothing was set in stone, so that meeting-up could occur sooner, and the potential is growing that it will.

7. But not on August 4th during the games—that would cause panic! If the council concludes that all conditions are ideal for a stunning appearance that day, very likely it will in the nature of an unmistakable extraterrestrial “fly-over,” not an Illuminati concoction designed to look like an invasion from space However, please do not be disappointed if that date passes without a world-startling event."

Or how 'bout:

"26. Instead, prepare for life in Earth’s Golden Age. We suggest that you not get bogged down in wondering which politicians are honest or which advice to follow about investing your money—soon enough you shall have those answers. Divest yourself of trivial interests and society’s superficial standards. Whenever possible, avoid encounters with confrontational folks, but if that isn’t possible, don’t be drawn into arguments—the expenditure of energy in such matters often results only in the negativity of frustration or futility. Trust your intuition and honor your soul-self."

Hey, I'm cool with that! emoticon
