Re: Coffee, Tea & Other Non-Alcholic Drinks

I'm hesitant to consume any unnatural sweeteners, these days. I would be more inclined to try the Stevia plant but I don't like the idea of ingesting it in a processed form like Truvia.

My usual morning drink is coffee with milk. Sometimes I get into a few weeks of drinking tea instead. Then my drink of choice is Tazo Chai with a bit of honey and milk.

Coffee...straight. emoticon Maybe I should amend that. "Straight" meaning black.

Liza, did you ever go back to organic coffee? Seems to me you said it didn't agree with you or something.

I also drink "straight" black coffee. I had an allergic reaction to mold in organic coffee, so have been drinking non-organic coffee. But organic is definitely healthier because conventional coffee is so heavily sprayed with pesticides.

So coffee (or "cawfee" as we say in NY) and water are my non-alcoholic drinks. Boring, I know! emoticon

Re: Coffee, Tea & Other Non-Alcholic Drinks

Being British, i'd expect people would assume that I like tea .... and they'd be right. emoticon I prefer Tetley or PG Tips but I will basically drink anything that vaguely resembles Tea (those who have visited UK cafe's will know to what I refer). I'm not a strong tea drinker, I prefer it with a fair dollop of milk. My Mrs likes it "strong enough so you can stand a spoon up in it" as we say round here.

I also love coffee, I have a Tassimo machine at home and use it regularly. I love getting a nice coffee when out around the shops and just sipping it and watching the world go by... bliss.

I love soft drinks as well, Cherry Pepsi Max is my fave at the moment.

I do use Splenda in my coffee, but prefer to use sugar.

I do have this thing though, which my missus thinks is weird. I do not have sugar in my Tea whenever I make it at home or have it at a friends house, however, when I go out and have a Tea in a cafe etc I will always put a sugar in to it regardless... Why? I'm not sure, I just always do... Strange eh.

Anyway, this is an question to those who have milk in their tea and its one of those very important meaning-of-life style questions:

Milk in the cup before the hot water, or after? Discuss emoticon

LOL! Me sainted mother used to say she liked hers strong enough to trot mice across. emoticon

And I honey and milk my tea AFTER the water and AFTER the bag has been removed. And squeeze the bag while removing only just enough so that it won't drip on the way to the wastebasket.

Tea preparation is an art.

Like CC, I squeeze my tea bag so it won't drip, but also to get the most flavor out of the tea.

I prefer to put in my sweetener before I pour the water. I don't need to stir then.

Good strong coffee is considered "high octane" to me. Or, "Norwegian." emoticon

I use tea bags, also. Honey first. Tea bag follows. Then hot water. Depending on the brand, I might add milk shortly after that and keep sipping with the tea bag in the cup.

Leaving the tea bag in the cup is plain and simply wrong. emoticon

For a super brew, I recommend the following:

Add tea bag to mug.
Add sweetener or sugar or honey as required.
Add slightly cooled, previously boiled water to the mug (too hot and you may scald the tea, giving it a slightly bitter taste).
Stir and then leave for approximately 1 minute to allow to settle.
Remove the tea bag, giving it a squeeze on the side of the mug on the way out to get all the flavour out.
Add milk to taste.

Should be a good cuppa that.

A fine recipe, Slick. The only thing I do different is add the honey after removing the bag so that the honey doesn't soak into the bag and reduce both the flow of water into the bag and the flow of flavour out.

I reckon that is probably the best way with the honey to be honest, as I don't use it, I was winging it a bit with that part of the list and I didn't take the clogability* of the bag into consideration.

*Clogability not a real word, but I do feel it should be emoticon
