What Are You Reading?

And would you recommend it to others?

I'm reading Rolling Thunder, by Doug Boyd, a story of a native American medicine man. Too early to say whether I'd recommend it, but so far, so good.

For my birthday a friend gave me her most cherished book: Lady Chatterley's Lover by DH Lawrence, and I'm enjoying it, since I'm considering taking on a lover myself.... emoticon okay, only joking about the lover part, but the book is fantastic! A classic that most have probably read, just not me....

Never read that classic, AL. Will put it on my list.

I just got a Kindle Fire and my first download was S King's 11-22-63. I've never been disappointed with him hooking me in the first couple pages, and this is no exception. Will certainly take me a while to finish, however, as it's just under 900 pages long. And, I tend to take my time with a book.

Cindy, I'd love to hear your review of the Kindle (or any e-reader if someone else uses one).

I think we'll all be in the market for one within a couple of years, if not sooner.

Re: What Are You Reading?

It's okay so far. Actually, I wanted one not for the books as a primary reason, but so I could check my email and FB and such while upstairs without having to go down to the dungeon to fire up my PC. This gave me that capability without shelling out hundreds more for an iPad.

I much prefer the real thing for reading. The Kindle/Nook is convenient, but is awkward to hold and I don't like the glass glare while trying to read. I certainly won't be using it as my preferred choice, I can tell you that.

That said, S King's new book was one of the first options listed on the menu, and I've wanted to read it with a passion, so I downloaded for a fraction of the price of the hardcover.

I more or less skimmed through Jane Fonda's latest, Prime Time. Good in parts, "been there, done that" in others. I'll return it to the library on Saturday.

So now I'll start Beyond Religion: Ethics for a Whole World, by the Dalai Lama (also from library).

Last night I watched the DVD Forks Over Knives (from library, where else!). Wow...everyone should see that! Yeah, it's about nutrition and the benefits of a plant-based diet. I lent it to a friend today, and she'll return it to the library for me.

She's got a skin rash she can't get rid of and the docs put her on Clobetisal and Prednisone! Yikes! ALL drugs suck, IMO. (Dianne, you wanna hear me rant about that?) emoticon emoticon

Just finished 11-22-63 in hardcover, what a fargin' BRICK! Great read, loved it.

I'm now reading The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells on my Kobo e-reader, and three or four printed-on-paper music-related magazines.

I just read Defending Jacob (can't think of the author offhand). Excellent. I predict a movie in the future.

OK, now I just read "We Need to Talk About Kevin" by Lionel Shriver. Ohhh my God, it blew me away. Now I'm off to see the movie.

I wish *I* could write a book that provokes such a gut reaction from its readers.
