Names of animal groups
Late in this dank cave. Mind wanders.
We all know the names of groups of animals.
There's a murder of crows.
Gaggle of geese.
Herd of cows.
Etc.
But what should collections of inanimate objects be called?
I'm thinking a pile of small purses should be called a "clutch of handbags."
Should a pile of kittens be called a wreck? A "wreck of kittens."
Any of you have thoughts about other groupings and how they should be named?
Moutta here.

Re: Names of animal groups
A chaos of cockroaches?
A chatter of parakeets
A fleeting of hummingbirds
This is fun!

Re: Names of animal groups
I just googled collective nouns to see if any of the above suggestions already exist.
Apparently, a clutch is already used to describe eggs and...testicles.
It also describes a 'cowardice of curs'!

Re: Names of animal groups
I used to enjoy making these up and somewhere in my house lurks a notebook containing a bunch.
Let's see what I remember:
A suture of surgeons.
An argument of lawyers.
A fury of feminists. (In my defense, I wrote that one in the late 70s.)
A handful of gropers.
A pomposity of professors.
And a new one for Cur - A grumble of curmudgeons.

Good ones! But, why isn't Hil jumping on this? She's too good.

Re: Names of animal groups
Good ones, all.
I'm about to jump, Cindy.
A stumble of toddlers.
A tantrum of toddlers.
A shrug of teenagers.
A flash of exhibitionists.
A flash of menopausal women.
A clack of typists.
A heartache of cardiologists.
A whisper of rumours.
A cast of fishermen.
A development of photographers.

Re: Names of animal groups
Holy jumpin' frog!
I'm humbled. Every post I read was wonderful. Far better than my feeble effort.
I had no idea other people think about things like this.
Sue, wonderful.
Side note to Frank, I loved your post about feminists. Mrs. Cur is one to the nines. Prollem is, she's smart. I don't get away with anything in this dark cave. Q certainly is, as well.
(Hmm, gotta think about feminists. I'm certain one of us can come up with the right aggregation. You go first, Frank. If you survive, I'll step lightly in.)
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread. Every post caused a genuine smile. I seldom do that, owing to owning no teeth.

Re: Names of animal groups
Glad you enjoy, Cur. And glad you posted the topic. I'd about forgotten how fun it is coming up with these things.
Here's a couple more:
A stupor of junkies.
A parsimony of misers.
An oratory of preachers.
ETA: A solitude of hermits.
