Great work, Sue. Maybe you should open a chicken spa.

I have one, Frank. They have porridge with meal worms when the weather is cold and I've even given them warm baths and a blow dry ( on medical advice, obviously!).

Re: My Chickens- before and after
So her name is Lily, huh? Lovely. That's a gorgeous shade of orange in the "after" pic. She must be very grateful to you.
I assume you won't be scarfing her down at any time, just her eggs, right?
Yeah, once you give an animal a name, there's gotta be a special bond.

Re: My Chickens- before and after
Sue, I forgot to ask you: Why was Lily being battered around in the first place? Are you a Rescue Lady who, during the wee dark hours of the night, goes around to chicken factories and sets the lil' buggers free?
Is there a story here?

Re: My Chickens- before and after
Thanks, Jena!
Kits, no, I'm not a one-woman rescue! There is a UK- wide organisation which collects 'spent' battery hens when the farmers are about to send them for slaughter and replace them with younger models who lay more.
You just put your name down for a few and collect them. The ones who don't get collected go to slaughter.
Lily has now passed onto the big chicken coop upstairs, as has Daisy and Harriet. I've currently got Marjorie, Barbara and Ruby. Hoping to get more soon!

Awww, that's a shame, Sue. Dare I ask the exact cause of Lily's demise? I mean, was it a peaceful old age sort of thing, or.... Shucks, I was just starting to get fond of her.
(Dear me...do I really want to know what happened to Lily? )
