Wow, superb opening ceremony! How can you go wrong when you have James Bond, Mr. Bean and Kenneth Branaugh in the same place?

Hilight for me? The cauldron. Unbelievably brilliant design and execution.

Okay, the Queen and James Bond jumping out of a helicopter was pretty good too. emoticon

Very proud to be British at the moment. I didn't think we could outperform Beijing's opener but I think we might have done it.

There is something about Elgar's Nimrod that just makes my heart twist up and my throat get very very tight ... and Jerusalem... bloody brilliant.

The cauldron, great idea, as was letting the younguns light it, touching and brilliant.

I'm loving the music from the ceremony, i'd never even heard of Dame Evelyn Glennie before (shame on me...) but now I need to find out more.

She's the silver haired percussionist from various parts of the performance, deaf, she "feels" the music through her body which is amazing considering how stupendously good she is.

We're in the home stretch now. There have been some awesome performances and some bitter disappointments, as it usually is for most nations. But Canada is currently sitting in the position in the rankings that we were hoping for, 12th in total number of medals. Anything above that will be a bonus.

Go Canada Go!

I've watched more this time around than I have since the '84 games. Enjoying it so much! Love it when Canada does well, and I watched GB take the gold and bronze in the Triathlon yesterday. Amazing! Of course, the women's USA gymnastic team performances are my favorite.

Well, I watched my football match last night ans saw Brazil beat the South Koreans 3 - 0 in a pretty good game actually. Hopefully it'll be a good final now with Brazil and Mexico.

This saturday my wife and I are off to the big smoke (london) to see the Rhythmic Gymnastics Individual All-round final rotations and ceremony at Wembley Arena. emoticon I won these tickets at work in a raffle.

I think for such a small nation, we're really punching above our weight at the recent olympics. Great for British sport.

What's happened to the Australians though?

We in the colonies are pretty chuffed about how well Britain is doing. Any time the host nation rises up and outdoes themselves, it's wonderful to see.

And yeah, the Aussies don't seem nearly as 'present' as they have in the past. Shame, that. I have a big place in my heart for the land down under.
