The Inertia Idiocy
Or...
If I ignore it long enough maybe it will go away
Okay, this is going to be a relatively short one. I really REALLY get chafed when I hear people say things like "there's no hard evidence to support global warming". I'm not even going to get into how blind they must be. Rather, my chafe is that they say these things as justification for maintaining the status quo.
Quite simply, I don't need to know what the exact consequences of pouring billions of tons of pollutants into the environment are to know that there WILL be consequences and that's it's a really REALLY good idea to stop doing it.

Amen to that. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Having just "endured" the winter-that-wasn't, no argument here either.

Re: The Inertia Idiocy
This chafe can apply to almost anything, not just global warming. Anything where someone wants to dispute evidence that could prevent them from just carrying on business as usual until "the car goes over the cliff", so to speak.
Usually because they're making money doing whatever they're doing, like the tobacco industry fighting against the mounting health damage evidence over the last half century. Again, I didn't need to know exactly what cancer I would get from smoking to know that inhaling burnt leaves probably wasn't making my insides too happy and that I'd probably be better off not doing it.

Re: The Inertia Idiocy
Far as I'm concerned idiocy is a common side effect of political and/or religious views.
There are too many examples to cite. Besides y'all are aware of them.
I'll cite just one. Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas.
